Morning all:

After last weekend’s big holiday this was a calm week. Therefore I thought that this post be a bit of a mélange of odds and ends. To get braced and ready I poured some extra coffee into the coffeepot, hmmm good. The early season snows have gone completely around us. All that we have had for most of the week is overcast and a cold rain. The lack of sun does affect a person’s spirit so I thought I’d load some sunny music (click here) to listen to while reading.

Brother Art was in town and we all had a great evening starting with having Indian food for dinner and concluding with a 10:30 PM indoor soccer match. Adrianne’s winning team from last season got bumped up a notch for their efforts. So this game, for all its intensity, became a bit of a lesson in how to play the game. I guess that is how you learn. Art also had his first meeting with Marin and the two of them hit it off. Marin crossed the 19-pound mark at age 5 months and parents are thrilled. Way down south Derek is busily at work teething (now three) and this is having its own costs in the form of a cold and flu, which then dad Vince also immediately took ownership of. By the way, Adrianne is continuing her ‘A’ grade progress as this semester ended – two to go! Meanwhile Marcia and I just plod along.

Last Sunday morning I drove past the little White Castle restaurant on my way to the expressway. It was cordoned off with police tape; several cruisers and news trucks were on the scene. It was enough activity for me to call Marcia to ask if she was watching the news. I guess that you can guess the rest since what unfolded there became an international news feeding frenzy – here we go again. Another bit of dé-ja vu from a couple of years ago staring this city in the eye. It is amazing, seeing how totally distorted the reporting of this event is from news media to news media. Along these lines, remember the Wal-Mart customer who was ‘trampled’ during the last weekend’s shopping excess? How the media loved her story? Well, read this little piece.

Talking about news, here is today’s activity list for each of next year’s candidates. I thought you ought to know what these dear hearts and ‘wanna-bes’ are up to. I also read about the ‘brillo’ syndrome, which apparently is the new killer among us. However I really love the sheriff as he was quoted saying; “Once you get out of your vehicle, don’t get back into the vehicle until you are through”. Huh?

OK, enough of this nonsense. Have a great week.

Cheers,

Dirk
