Morning All:
This morning I am in a little bit of a quandary, at least as far as my wish list is concerned. Last night I opened brother Pieter’s blog, which was generated during his week’s visit to Miami. A nice shot of the group enjoying a ride on a ‘Segway‘ around Miami’s South Beach. Counter this to a phone conversation I had a couple of evenings ago with brother-in-law Paul while he was driving home; snowfall approaching one foot, wind racing at 45 mph, and the temperature 7 degrees above zero – total visibility 5 car lengths. So here I am with a weekend staring at me, looking for a ‘fun’ thing to do. For a day, either would be absolutely great. Enjoy a true winter spectacle, or enjoy a day on the beach.
“Snap”, back to reality.
This week fate or old age parked another plumbing issue right in our laps. So here is my real Saturday; have breakfast and head for the basement to clean up along the outside wall. This is so that starting Monday morning Mike the Plumber, whose kids I am putting through college, can start work. This will make sure that the Spring tuition for these kids will be paid for – I actually saw them wave at our house on a family drive by. Mike calls it a ‘search and destroy’ mission. I call it replacing 30+ feet of the main 6-inch drain that goes to the outside.
To avoid a wild case of depression I am schlepping my stereo downstairs to the basement to play nothing but sultry Brazilian Bossa Nova tunes – much like the piece accompanying this post.
Today it’s a very happy birthday for Cathy! In honor of her birthday, and all those who are a bit reflective about the aging thing these days, have a look at this ‘Week’s Best’ (button at bottom of page) site; a blog put together by the residents of a Dutch retirement center. Monday morning early Marcia is off for sunny Florida to spend the week with the gang down there. Maybe she’ll get to see Derek take his first steps. Also, part of the reason is that she’ll be the babysitter while Kirstin and Vince attend a very important dinner – you’ll have to ask him direct why this is such an important event. Marcia’s sitting skills must be very special for them to hire from 1000 miles away. Now, if I go and have a refill on my coffee I can stall my trip to the basement – at least for another hour.
Have a great week.
Cheers,
Dirk
