Morning all:
The morning song of the Cicada is dying down, as are millions of the little critters themselves. Bits of the tips of tree branches are strewn over the yards where they have fallen or hanging dormant from the trees. These are parts of the trees affected by the larva of the bugs themselves. It is easier to look out the window and write about it over my morning coffee than seeing it up close while crunching through Cicada remains on my walks.
I am in a summer mood. The music background for this week reflects that. Specifically it is bringing back memories of summertime cruising in my ’63 Mercury Comet convertible with the top down. My brothers will remember my Detroit wonder, pure white with a blue interior. Unlike some other cars I owned, they appreciated this one. I did have something from Germany called an “Isetta” that was so tiny that one night they got together with friends and lifted it on the porch – no respect at all. But my Comet, now that they respected.
This weekend is Summerfair in Cincinnati. It’s a judged art festival kept at 300 artists, selected from 4000 applicants. A number of countries are represented and several music stages will be in operation. So here is the brilliant idea that was spawned – quite spontaneously, I might add. Since senior company officials are in town for meetings they would come over to our house for wine and cheese prior to all of us heading for Summerfair and then dinner. Marcia, when apprised of this weekend development, popped her eyeballs open way beyond normal, and then started muttering stuff. Her mutterings came through a bit garbled but I did catch ‘I’m no different” and “Stepford wives” in the mix. I promised I would assist with the house pick-up and scrub-down. In a few minutes I will start my assist by heading out for Jungle Jim’s to select the appropriate wines and cheeses. Hey, I know that this is probably one of the more challenging tasks we face this weekend, but someone has to do it. Did I mention that two of the guests are wine connoisseurs; this selection business is heavy stuff indeed.
Later in the week will be spectacular as Kirstin and Derek scoot into town for a few days. Since Adrianne’s graduation will be next Saturday she will be able to be part of the celebration. Thanks Vince for playing the bachelor for a few days, we’ll see you in four weeks.
Have a great week everyone!
Cheers,
Dirk
