Morning all:

This morning I tumbled down the stairs playing a game of “I can make it to the kitchen without turning on a light”, and won. I then turned on the lights, only to stare into the eyes of two very upset cats. Well, they were either upset scared like, or quite angry, and I know that for a fact since I just finished reading Marley and Me and am now able to commune with all types of critters. The reason they are upset (actually maybe they’re panicked) is because we ran out of cat food. After I post this I’ll make a run to the store. In the meantime I have discovered that cats do not do soy milk, not even some laced with fresh morning coffee.

I am dreading the ‘shank’ of this day. To get ready I did extra ‘duty’ at the wine tasting event we went to last night—always be prepared is my motto. Marcia is on a mission! Over the past two weeks she has stealthily gone about on various grocery buying expeditions (sprees): Sam’s Club, Krogers, Biggs, Trader Joe’s, Meijers, just to name a few. By my latest count I believe she has spent about $895 on a wide array of food stuffs. Open the large freezer door and you’ll stare into a solid and hard frozen wall of brightly colored boxes and foil bags. Open the refrigerator side and you’d be hard pressed to get a small yogurt container to fit. Open the pantry—same.

At the same time she started preparing a list. A list would have been no problem, but it has grown into a 45-page booklet detailing menu preparation, cooking tips, balanced meal how-to’s, kitchen cleaning guide, as well as a cryptic note about NOT doing peanut butter sandwiches morning noon and night. All this is because, on Tuesday, she starts her three-week journey into the heart of Tonga. So why am I dreading the ‘shank’ of this day? I am dreading the inevitable sit-down with madam so that she can preview the 45-page booklet while I appear attentive and during which she will also try to extract ‘house cleanliness’ promises from me.

For those keeping track, yes Marcia is still packed. Not only that, but the piano top is arrayed with an array of wigs, beads, Elton John style eyeglasses, and other various items as tonight she will take on the persona of Fi Fi Rosenbaum. My Larry Lens character I am still in the process of evolving—translate that into “I don’t have my costume yet.” It’s yet another thing I have to do today before we head for our Murder Mystery Dinner later this evening.

Last week I mentioned that Kirstin, Vince, and Derek went on a Disney cruise. All reports have it that they had a great time. Young 3-year old Derek, at one point turned to his Dad and said “I am so happy.” Does it get any better than that?

“No Shang, it’s OK, you don’t have to share your food with them. We’ll go walk shortly.” See how good I am with this animal communing thing. And, one last time, for those of you who can’t get enough of keeping track, yes, Marcia is still packed—3 days and counting.

Make it a great week everyone.
Cheers,
Dirk
