Happy Saturday morning; this one celebrating the insanity displayed around the grocery store’s frozen Turkey case.
“You know that just before that first Thanksgiving dinner there was one wise old native American woman saying: “Don’t feed them. If you feed them, they’ll never leave.”” ~ Dylan Brody
Do you realize that early on there was no tea or coffee served at the Thanksgiving meal? The tea had been dumped into Boston harbor and coffee was an unknown. It was therefore substituted by: wine, beer, and whiskey (the Dutch hadn’t started shipping their Jenever). Whatever were they thinking?
Proven Wrong – Yesterday afternoon I had several stops to make, mainly as part of the work going on at our condo. So, Marcia dumped one more stop onto my list. Could I make a quick swing past the grocery store? To the grocery items she added bananas. As I buttoned up to leave I was cautioned; “make certain you buy green bananas.” See, I believe that she thinks that at my age I move so slow that they’d turn yellow by the time I got back home.
Pouring my morning coffee I took a close look at that bunch of green bananas. They are now an even deeper green. Therefore, on the one hand I feel vindicated. On the other, I was not able to enjoy a sliced banana with my steel-cut oats.
Condo update (ongoing) – The whole project appears to be letting in some daylight as I look through the reconstruction tunnel.
As with the projected work at Northern Comfort, I am amazed by the lack of professionalism and business savvy displayed by many small businesses trying to make a go of it. Way too many service contractors are of a mind-set where a simple request to explore their capabilities can be left unanswered.
But, we plowed on. And finally we’ve struck ‘pay-dirt’.
We managed to find an excellent and responsive plumber. As of today, all the plumbing in the kitchen has been relocated to accommodate the new layout.
We also needed gutter and roof work at our house. Finally (I fired one company) found a group that’s been in business for almost ten years, is reasonable, and takes a percentage of their profits as a donation to a local charity.
And the flooring people not only showed up, gave some good input, but actually scheduled a date and time that met our needs.
So, should you need work done – plumbing, flooring, gutter cleaning & roof algae removal, give us a call and we’ll share you our results.
Fun event – Aside celebrating one of my favorite holidays, this week there is one more – Grandparent’s Day. Our nearby school has an annual breakfast, a little entertainment, and a visit to the kid’s classrooms for Show and Tell.
With three of our gang attending North Avondale Montessori you’ll see us dashing through the school halls this coming Tuesday morning. What’s best is just how serious the kids are and how proud they are explaining their work. I love it!
Fini – Welcome back to the lower 48 Vince – leaving the balmy far north for the frozen southern states had to be a thrill.
Kirstin, I hope that last evening’s Book Club hosting duty was a huge success. The reason I mention this is that Marcia and I provided her with the recipe for the ‘heart’ of her food preparation – Gypsy Soup.
Then, success to Tevita as he sets out on a new tack on his career path.
Then, to Donn, enjoy anything requiring ice cubes. Donn shot north to the Lake to check things out and where the ice is already beginning to form. Global Warming seems to have missed that part of the globe. For that matter, it’s also missed our portion.
Make it a great week everyone. Have a wonderfully Happy Thanksgiving. Stay safe.
Cheers.
Dirk
