Except here at Northern Comfort; day two and I am close but still, we no running water. A valve cracked during the winter, so yesterday it was a run to town and the hardware store. With that installed I got enough pressure up to notice that the water inlet to the toilet has a problem. Hence, as soon as this blog is posted that issue will be addressed.

But, we were thinking. During our run to town we took along our 5-gallon water jug and swung by the local water spring in Little Rapids. This morning it was a fabulous mug of coffee.

Also this morning its 44 degrees and raining; most people would make reference to ‘lemons’ under these conditions. We’re different, we see lemonade. Making Lemonade means you might as well do it right and make ‘organic’ Lemonade. Hence ……

Border Crossing – into Canada looked like a calm event, and it was. Two lanes were open and I ended up in the slow lane. Taking count the other lane moved three vehicles through for each car in our lane.

Finally it was our turn, and after over ten hours of travel we we’re ready to get the last bit under way. We quickly discovered that our Border Control agent was a talker. He asked something about us heading north to avoid all the US Presidential election hoopla. There, now I had him. I was not about to get sucked in to some long-winded political conversation.

Clever me, I astutely managed to change the conversation to …….. guns. We sat in front of the little kiosk for at least four-minutes in a hearty conversation about gun attitudes and rules in the USA and in Canada. Marcia stayed very quiet.

Our new foundation – No longer does it feel like we live on a ship. The floors are rock-solid. The doors are perfectly square and open/close beautifully. No air leaks. Even our screened-in deck is oh-so solid.

A master carpenter, Mr. Montpetit, has already been over to assess the building of the rails in front of the cabin. The cabin now sits high enough where the safety of a front rail and along the stairs is a necessity.

So, I am pleased. Marcia is less pleased. The cabin lifting and the cement work means that all the greens carefully nurtured around the cabin perimeter are gone. The look of colorful flowers and various green leafed plants are but a memory.

But never fear. Yesterday was a beautiful day and Marcia was busy cleaning up a few piles of junk that the building crew left behind.

Also, while in town we bought a dozen bags of earth and mulch. Now, her old canoe transformed into a veggie planter named “the Poopy Patch” (paying homage to the 4-sacks of Alpaca ‘deposits’ used to enrich the soil).

Fini – Before I skip this, to all you moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day.

Yesterday, neighbor Bob-the-Forester managed the winch while I undid the cleat and within a few minutes the dock was lowered in the water.

This is a short post. Still getting back up to speed, plus I need to continue work on the all-important water business. Once the water is on, we’ll quickly settle comfortably to life in the North Woods, best get started

To everyone, make it a great week and everyone, stay safe.

Cheers.

Dirk
