Vince Briones, 48, of Austin, TX, Project Director at Atkins North America, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, October 16, 2017, ending his courageous battle with cancer.

Born September 9, 1969 in San Francisco, CA, was raised in San Jose, CA and graduated from the University of Central Florida with a BSME. He achieved the Professional Engineer (PE) license designation; the profession’s highest standard of competence.

He leaves behind the loves of his life, his wife Kirstin and sons Derek and Kellen, along with his mother Donna Elliott-Robinson, father Oscar Briones (Toni), and brother Sergio Briones (Amy). Treasured son-in-law of Dirk and Marcia Pastoor and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Predeceased by his much-cherished grandmother, Anna Elliott.

Family was always first to Vince and he enjoyed travel and adventure. He loved running on the trail, bicycling, paddle boarding and kayaking with his sons and dog and he was a huge sci-fi movie fan.
His career spanned the nation and included clients as diverse as; the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA), the Orlando Magic, City of Austin, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) HQ in Philadelphia, the Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios, the United States Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Alaska Army National Guard (AKARNG).

Throughout he gained national recognition for his sustainable design, Green building, and LEED work; receiving a continuing array of accolades and endorsements from industry leaders.

His aim to excel found Vince competing in and finishing two Ironman Races. The Austin biking and running community is alive with members spurred on to new levels of personal best through Vince’s words, personal involvement, and example.

The word ‘quit’ was not in Vince’s vocabulary. To the end he lived his life to the fullest and spread compassion, love, and betterment to all whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers we suggests donating to Austin’s Wonders & Worries which provides free professional support for children coping with a parent’s illness. Or to the Vince Briones Scholarship Fund, US Green Building Council Central Florida; an annual scholarship awarded to students who embody what Vince lived….a passion for green buildings, and teaching others how to make it happen ( scroll down to Central Florida section and click Vince Briones).
